That Time of the Month? Here Are Some Activities To Do When You’re on Your Period

I guess it’s no longer strange and new to us, women the struggles that we face during that time of the month… That means “menstrual period” for those of you, guys, which for any strange reason, managed to land on this particular blog page.

No Strings Attached Sceen

Most girls think that menstruation is God’s way of punishment for biting that forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. I mean, who would want to suffer cramps, headaches, mood swings and low self-esteem on a regular basis (monthly for most girls)? This makes this women’s cycle the color red that makes everything blue…

No one can blame you if you feel this way.

However, it does not mean you should cancel all your commitments and activities just because monthly red comes in the most inconvenient day. In fact, you should engage yourself to some activities even more during this time instead of locking yourself at home, wearing the same sweatpants for 3 straight days, eating Ben & Jerry’s, crying while watching Titanic for the Nth time.

Here are some activities to enjoy even when you’re on your period:

Swimming

– A lot of women have been fooled by this old wives tale that it never a good idea to go swimming during menstrual period… Not even showering. Basing from what I’ve heard during my health class, it is mainly because it could leak all over the pool. Perhaps… Then, there’s the recurring “shark” joke when swimming in the beach. Bottom line is you can still do swim even when you’re in the red zone, provided that you wear tampons. Diving is a completely different story, tho.

Go out and Exhibit Yourself

– As mentioned earlier, girls tend to lock themselves within their comfort zone, especially when having a major flow, for the reason that we’re very sensitive and very emotional during this time. So, why not go out instead? This is most likely the best time to go out with friends as opposed to stressing yourself out even more at home. Go out on a date, chill out with your girlfriends, go shopping or plan a road trip. Take out those blues period blues away!

Doll Up

– You don’t want to mess up your cute peach-colored dress. You’re uncomfortable wearing the sexiest lingerie your partner gave you last Christmas. Those are just some of the reasons women don’t want to dress up during red letter day. On the contrary, it’s during these days that you need to dress up even more. Dressing up can boost up woman’s esteem and confidence, and that’s exactly what you need in the most trying times of menstrual period.

Stay Active

– Too lazy and cramped to move a muscle? Well, don’t be. In fact, exercising can even alleviate menstrual cramps, not to mention it also improves your mood. Running, jogging, walking, yoga, dancing, aerobics and pilates are just some of the exercise that best complements your body during crimson wave week.

Share Intimate Moments with your Partner

– I understand some you will pull the usual “EEK!” the moment your eyes land on this very line… Believe it or not, sex during periods can be quite enjoyable and relaxing, provided that you’ve taken all the necessary precautions and needs before engaging (that means condoms, shower, etc.) And just to clarify, this is not limited to sex. You can also do other “playful” stuff if you’re not comfortable with doing the deed as you bleed.

Be Creative

– If you’re really not in the mood to brave the city life on a “red alert” weekend, another activity that you can pretty much enjoy on your period is to pre-occupy yourself with art such as collage-making, sculpting and painting. The latter pretty much redefines the phrase, “paint the town red”. Kidding aside, art will also help you de-stress yourself as you get by with your period.

Foodage Galore

– Think of it as your cheat day to eat as much food as you want. A hall pass, if you may. It is normal to indulge your cravings during your period, considering the excruciating pain and irritable feeling you’re already going through. Although, not to the extent where you’re just making your period as an excuse to overindulge. Establish limitations, unless you want to prolong your suffering as opposed to make you feel better.

To wrap this up, menstrual period shouldn’t be seen as the annoying buzzkill that constantly tries to ruin your week. Instead, you should embrace it and treat it as a good and perfectly normal thing.

Pads or Tampons: Which is a Better Protection?

Picture yourself having a great alone-time in your house, browsing through your collection of records while nursing a bottle of wine in your favorite intimate wear. Barry White’s raspy voice lingers through the walls of your dimmed living room. Everything is so calm, serene and relaxing… Until a sudden gush of crimson wave surprised and practically ruined the mood.

We all know how women’s “code red” can be a drag, especially when you’re having the time of your life. Or worse, when you’re in your alluring, most self-reassuring intimate apparel! And coming from experience, it’s not the best picture to look at. Either ways, it shouldn’t be enough reason to lock yourself from such simple indulgences.

It's not fair nothing happens to boysSo, the question lies: What’s the best feminine hygiene product to use to compensate with your lifestyle?

Both tampons and pads are effective in their own capacities (menstrual cups are out the question for now, considering its price and hygienic purposes). However, both can also give you the worst case of red-letter day.

Personally, I consider myself more of a tampon gal, although is still use maxis every once in a while. To help you decide, and since every woman’s body chemistry differs from the others, here are my thoughts about this:

Going Active

My Verdict: Tampons

For me, wearing tampons when engaging in activities such as weekly yoga class, driving, dancing, sports and even swimming is much more effective and hygienic. With pads, it’s quite “limiting” and restricting when it comes to making big moves and pivots. But you’re still opted to use pads, I suggest go with those ultra thin with reliable wings to keep it in place and prevent leaks without the bulky-messy feel.

Wearing White or Practically any Fancy Clothes

Verdict: Maxi Pads

Ugh, the stain coming from leaks is definitely a red flag! Puns aside, occurrences such as this can ruin pretty much the entire day, and your clothes as well. In those days where I need to overshoot my typical t-shirt + jeans fashion sense, maxi pads come as your number 1 fortification, especially if your period is on full first day blast. Tampons are effective, but in some cases, they just can’t seem to do the job.

During Sleep

Verdict: Tampons

Sleeping while you’re on your period is utterly tricky. In most cases, you can’t get to position yourself comfortably out of paranoia of sleep leaks. No one is to blame if you have a strong flow during your golden slumber. Sanitary napkins tend to deform and move due to some body positions, so it is not recommended to use during your rest. Although, using overnight pads could be a wise option as well.

Donning a Lingerie

Verdict: Tampons/Pads

Monthly period shouldn’t stop you from looking dainty and sexy. But of course, you still have to depend your protection on what kind of lingerie will you be wearing tonight? If you’re toying the idea of thongs, then it is pretty obvious pads won’t suffice. If you think the panties that go along with the babydoll set can handle an ultra thin/regular pad, then you’re safe with napkins.

While at Work

Verdict: Tampons

Give parking pass to idiots. Change tampon. Kill selfTampons work for as long as 8 whole hours unlike sanitary napkins, which you religiously need to change from time to time. So, using femme plugs allows you to work uninterrupted, and thus make you to become more productive.

Generally speaking, it’s still up to you on what’s more effective and convenient for you to wear, as long as it conforms to your preferences, lifestyle and activities. As said earlier, this au naturel phenomenon will bug you from time to time, it doesn’t imply you’re going to simply let it antagonize your activities. So, better make the most out of it instead.

After all, that’s the reason why these feminine products are invented.
